There are 500+ places of interest in the UK under the National Trust banner and I will be attempting to visit as many as I can, reporting as I do all the important stuff relative to accessibility.
In this episode I visit NUFFIELD PLACE, the home of Lord and Lady Nuffield, otherwise known as William Morris of the car name fame. He purchased the home and garden and made it his, by extending and modifying it to suit his needs.
Career wise he started as an apprentice bicycle repairer and moved into making them when his request for a pay rise was rejected. Later, he went into making cars and built the name of Morris around the Cowley area of Oxfordshire.
Morris purchased Wolsley in the expansion process and during his lifetime put the profits to good use, donating about £8bn equivalent nowadays to charitable causes in the medical and education arena, such as Nuffield Orthopedic Hospital where I had my second back operation.
While scooters were a problem, they made an effort and provided me with a pusher/wheelchair. I think I got a bit of personal treatment with a guided tour and commentary.
The only downfall was the gate to the disabled parking area which would be difficult for solo drivers.
